Reel To Reel Recorder Problem Anyone?

Thursday, April 1st, 2010
Ronn asked:

Hi Everyone! I wonder if there are people that have a reel to reel recorder at home because i have a problem with mine. Today like usual i turned it on and i noticed that sound has gotten a little blury first i thought that the magnetic head is durty but later i realized that there was a part missing, there was some kind of pecae “pressure pad” that used to push tape to the head. I tried to replace it with one of my own but it didn’t really got better and i wonder is there someone that can tell me what material is made out of ? (I mean only the part that is missing is that little brown square.)
P.S. Sorry for my bad English I’m a foreigner :)

Does the tracking adjustment on a VHS / Betamax VCR physically move the position of the video / audio head(s)?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009
Casey C. asked:

. . . possibly to get them into an optimal position to match the location where the recording video head(s) on a different VCR happened to record the analog video and sound data, and to also account for slight manufacturing tolerance differences between different brands of tapes?

What is the min. sampling rate (Kb/sec) for an analog to digital converter if a Betamax VCR requires SP to rec?

Thursday, December 10th, 2009
Casey C. asked:

When converting with the analog method, the VHS VCR must be set to record in S.P. mode or it won’t capture anything from the Betamax VCR for some reason. The S.P. VHS recording mode probably has some digital equivalent to achieve the minimum 30 frames/sec. to have fluid-motion video.
My apologies, as I need to clarify that I intend to purchase an analog to digital converter, such as a Pinnacle Systems “Dazzle”, to ultimately get the Betamax tape onto a DVD or a CD via a computer. Thus, translating the VHS S.P. recording mode to a device’s digital capture rate is critical.

What is a good digital recorder?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009
Once Bitten, Twice Shy asked:

I am a transcriptionist, and one of my duties is typing recorded meetings. I currently use an analog recorder (with mini-cassettes) to record meetings, but our CEO approached me yesterday about a meeting he was at which had a digital recorder with speakers on all four corners of the table. He said the sound was perfect, and asked if a digital recorder would be beneficial for me. I have so many questions such as: Is there a headphone jack for me to listen? Are there digital recorders with speaker jacks? Can they record up to two hours’ long at a time or longer? Are they easy to use? Which brand is the best by far?
